This past week we officially finished with Field-Based Training in Valley of Peace, and we wrapped up our technical training by hosting a Health Education Fair on Wednesday. We covered topics like Maternal and Neonatal Health, Childhood Illnesses, and Non-Communicable Diseases. I was specifically on the Maternal and Neonatal team, and while we worked hard on our Birth Plan pamphlets and informational posters, nearly everyone that showed up was under the age of 12, so we mostly played fun games and gave out stickers. But, hopefully we reinforced some important messages too – “Por que es importante comer los vegetales? Mas saludable, si!”
Check out some great pictures that my friend Diana took of the Health Fair:
And then we said a fond farewell to Valley of Peace this weekend, by hosting a Thank You Party for all of our host families. We baked cake, bought watermelon (211 pounds!), played some music, and just generally had a good time with our families.
I’m really gonna miss these guys, but I’m excited to move forward into service. T-minus 4 days until Swearing In!
